Phrasing
Phrasing can be used within drum grooves, fills or solo’s – generally when we practice phrasing we are trying to control and develop a specific sticking pattern so when can freely use it in our playing with the least amount of thought and the most amount of feel.
An example of simple phrasing would be phrasing eighth notes on the hi-hats within a basic 4/4 groove – an example of advanced phrasing would be playing a sticking of 10 notes incorporating the bass drum through thirty second notes – or demi semi quavers.
