Single Stroke Orchestration Idea's. In this drum lesson we are playing a drum groove for one bar and then in bar two we are playing various single stroke orchestration ideas playing on the snare drum and around the drum kit.

Each exercise should be played many times to get comfortable with the groove and the fill - we should then improvise the same sticking on other parts of the drum kit.

Double Stroke Practice Idea's. In this drum lesson we are playing a rudiment called double strokes through sixteenth notes playing on the snare drum. Aiming for an even flow of notes and playing the hi hat with the foot on the quarter note.

When playing this rudiment we need to accent various notes, accenting the second note of each double stroke will help gain definition when played around the drum kit. We need to play the double stroke using a single motion and using rebound.

Basic Four-Way Independence. In this drum lesson we are looking at four way independence. Drummers need coordination and independence to play the drum kit. Playing the hi hats with the foot as an ostinato and playing eighth notes on the ride cymbal with the leading hand.

Playing a simple drum groove but changing the hi hats from playing quarter notes, off beat eighth notes, eighth notes and then off beat sixteenth notes - drummers need to apply these hi hat ostinatos to other, more complicated, drum grooves.

Blues Shuffle - Grooves and Fill's. In this drum lesson we are playing half time blues shuffles using the hi hats, snare drum and bass drum for grooves. Using moeller technique to accent the eighth notes on the hi hats and adding ghost notes on the snare drum.

We are also playing two bar phrases using single strokes and double strokes as our rudiments for playing sixteenth note triplet drum fills.

Groove Progression No. 1 In this drum lesson we are looking at a practicing concept called groove progression. Practicing a basic groove and focusing on technique and fluidity - once we have the muscle memory to play each exercise without too much thought we add a couple of notes on any sound source of the drum kit.

Drummers can end up playing some very difficult drum grooves and drum fills by gradually building the groove or fill in this way from a basic pattern.
