Blues
Playing the blues has a different counting system to i.e. straight ahead pop or funk drumming – were playing triplets and most drummers will count (one-trip-let, two-trip-let, three-trip-let, four-trip-let) to complete a bar of 12/8 blues.
Rather than playing all of these notes, if we were to miss out the second eighth note triplet – or the ‘trip’ of each beat we would be playing a 12/8 blues shuffle and it should have a nice swing to it. Moeller technique is a must to get a great sounding quarter note accented shuffle.
